The US Environmental Protection Agency has announced a vehicle parts distributor in Exeter will be paying a 2.5 million dollar penalty for allegedly violating the Clean Air Act. In a news release today, the EPA alleges that Keystone Automotive sold aftermarket devices that were designed to defeat the emissions control systems on cars and trucks. The "defeat devices" can enable large emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter, into the air, both of which contribute to serious health problems in the United States. The Keystone settlement is the third largest civil penalty settlement nationwide for aftermarket defeat device cases. Overall, the company was cited for 15,621 violations.
