Geisinger will eliminate 100 positions within its Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) as part of what leadership is calling a “structural transformation,” according to a message sent Tuesday by Dr. Terry Gilliland, president and CEO of Geisinger, to all employees.

The restructuring affects roughly 100 of the 1,200 employees in the GHP department. Gilliland noted that most impacted employees are expected to transition into other roles within the broader Geisinger health system.

The move comes in response to ongoing financial challenges within the health plan division. GHP reported a $231 million operating loss last year, one of several years of mounting fiscal pressures.

Gilliland said the changes are necessary to position GHP for long-term sustainability and to continue delivering quality care and service to members.
