Pa Governor Josh Shapiro talked with WILK's Nancy and Jason about the GOP's proposed Medicaid cuts in their budget. Governor Shapiro said 3 million Pennsylvanians rely on Medicaid for healthcare in the Commonwealth. There are approximately 101,000 in Luzerne County 59,000 in Lackawanna County. Shapiro says the federal government puts $30 billion dollars a year into Pennsylvania for Medicaid, the state provides $20 billion dollars. If the federal budget cuts up to $5 billion from the state's allocation, Shapiro says Pennsylvania cannot make that up. He believes the GOP will cut even more. That means hundreds of thousands of people in the state will lose access to Medicaid and it will seriously impact rural hospitals. Governor Shapiro says we will see if Congressman Rob Bresnahan votes against this if it comes before him. Governor Josh Shapiro also discussed the recent arson at the governor's residence, funding for agriculture in the state and continuing to push for legalization of recreational marijuana.
