In Hazleton, a gunshot tracker system will be in place by the end of July. It's a high tech crime fighting system that can hear sounds. According to city officials, it can also determine what kind of a sound and where it was located. If it is a gunshot, police are notified and will be dispatched to that area. It will be tied in to the license plate camera system already in place and some 140 gunshot trackers using microphones and speakers will be set up throughout the city. A similar system is in place in Philadelphia and several other cities in the state.
