The man accused of a daytime shooting in Hanover Township turned himself in to authorities on Thursday, ending a two-day search that spanned multiple counties. Jason D. Dates, 33, of Nanticoke, surrendered following a Tuesday morning incident where he allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend in the leg during a domestic dispute near the intersection of Fellows Avenue and the Sans Souci Parkway.
The victim, who had just dropped her child off at school, was reportedly followed by Dates before he fired a shot through her car door. She managed to drive herself to the Hanover Township Municipal Building for help, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Dates now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and firearms violations, and is currently being held at the Luzerne County Prison.
The investigation into Dates’ movements led to the arrest of 22-year-old Tierra Shanell Gilliam, who is charged with hindering prosecution. Police allege that Gilliam intentionally misled investigators by claiming Dates had entered a home in Wilkes-Barre—prompting a massive police standoff—while she was actually driving him toward Philadelphia. Using license plate readers and phone records, authorities tracked her vehicle on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, eventually arresting her when she returned to Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday night.
