SCRANTON, PA – An investigation is underway at the Lackawanna County Prison following the death of an inmate after an assault on Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m., when two inmates were involved in an altercation. The assault resulted in the death of one of the individuals. The identity of the deceased inmate has not been released.
The Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office Detective Division and Pennsylvania State Police Troop R are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. Officials stated that both inmates involved in the incident were federal detainees.
