SCRANTON, PA — Jury selection is scheduled to begin today in Lackawanna County Court for the murder trial of a former Lowe's employee accused of fatally shooting a co-worker inside the store last year.
Christopher Wasnetsky, 36, of Dalton, faces charges of first- and third-degree murder in connection with the June 2025 shooting death of 44-year-old Jeffrey Moeller Jr.
According to police records, the shooting occurred during an overnight shift around 12:30 a.m. inside the Lowe's location along Viewmont Drive in Scranton. Authorities state that Wasnetsky approached Moeller while he was operating a forklift and opened fire. Moeller suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead.
Wasnetsky surrendered to police at the scene after placing a 911 call to report the shooting. In statements to investigators, Wasnetsky allegedly admitted to bringing a firearm to work and shooting Moeller, claiming he had experienced months of unaddressed harassment during work hours.
Defense attorneys previously filed notice in county court indicating plans to pursue a mental infirmity defense. Prosecutors from the Lackawanna County District Attorney's Office have stated they intend to oppose the defense motion, maintaining that evidence shows the shooting was premeditated.
