Lackawanna County Commissioners held the first reading of the 2025 budget on Wednesday. Majority Commissioners Matt McGloin and Bill Gaughan, proposed a budget that would raise property taxes by 33% in an effort to bring Lackawanna County out of the red while Minority Commissioner Chris Chermak proposed his own budget, calling for a 6.3% tax increase. Residents at the meeting again expressed disappointment at a potential tax increase and urged the commissioners to work together. A final budget approval will take place on Wednesday, November 20th in Lackawanna County.
