Lackawanna County bridge closed for at least a year

A bridge in Lackawanna County will be closed for at least a year as part of a replacement project. The Lackawanna County Department of Roads and Bridges closed the bridge connecting Old Mill Road and Route 348 in Jefferson Township Thursday. According to the department, engineers were examining the bridge on Wednesday when they saw it flex as a heavy vehicle and school bus crossed it despite a five-ton restriction. Department officials say the bridge is structurally deficient and must be replaced.
