A Lackawanna County restaurant owner was recently taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to reports.
Nasiario Damian Contreras, the owner of Leonor's restaurant in Moscow, was detained outside one of his own establishments last week by ICE agents. He is currently being held at the Pike County Correctional Facility.
An attorney representing Contreras’ family said he has lived in the United States for 23 years and previously held legal immigration status. However, the attorney claims that status lapsed after a former legal representative failed to file the necessary paperwork.
Supporters of Contreras say they are working to resolve the situation and are hoping for a legal remedy to allow him to remain in the country.
