NANTICOKE, PA — More than 100 employees of Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) are preparing to go on strike next week if a new union contract cannot be finalized.

The contract, which governs the college staff represented by the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), expired on August 31. While both parties confirm they have been in negotiations for at least six months, an agreement remains elusive.

LCCC President John Yudichak pointed to broader financial strains as a major obstacle, citing the ongoing state budget impasse, a decrease in college revenue, and a rise in operating expenses that have collectively made contract negotiations difficult.

The union and the college are scheduled for a crucial final negotiation session on November 3. However, should a compromise fail to materialize during that meeting, the strike is set to begin at 12:00 a.m. on Monday, November 5, potentially disrupting operations at the community college.
