AVOCA, Pa. – A proposed solid waste transfer station will not be coming to Avoca after a Luzerne County judge upheld the denial of a special exception for the project.
On Tuesday, Luzerne County Judge Lesa Gelb affirmed a prior decision by the Luzerne County Zoning Hearing Board to deny an application from Big Rocks LLC. The company had sought to open a dump on a 25-acre parcel of land located near Pittston Avenue and Main Street, a site where a rock quarry currently operates.
The company is expected to appeal the judge's ruling. Additionally, a cease and desist order has been issued for the rock quarry on the property. The Luzerne County Zoning Hearing Board has scheduled a meeting for November 3rd to discuss the rock quarry's operations.
