Nearly a decade after the death of Scranton Police Patrolman John Wilding, one of the men convicted in connection with the case has been granted parole.

According to reports, the Pennsylvania State Parole Board has approved the release of Tanner Curtis — nearly 10 years to the day after Officer Wilding died from injuries he sustained while chasing Curtis and two others following an armed robbery in West Scranton on July 11, 2015.

Wilding, 29, fell during the foot pursuit and suffered severe head trauma. He died the next day.

Curtis, along with Nasiir Jones and Isiah Edwards, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and were each sentenced in August 2017 to 9 to 18 years in prison. All three men are now 27 years old. Jones and Edwards remain behind bars.

Wilding’s death left a lasting impact on the Scranton community and led to renewed conversations around police pursuit policies and officer safety.
