Man pleads guilty in "House of Horrors" case
WILK

Jason Race, 44, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to first-degree murder for the brutal 2021 killing of 38-year-old Nicole Cuevas inside a Carlisle Street residence famously dubbed the "House of Horrors." In addition to the murder charge, Race entered a no-contest plea to aggravated assault involving a second victim, Anthony Cook, who survived a kidnapping and stabbing at the same location. The investigation into the house of residents began in 2024 when authorities discovered Cuevas’s remains buried in the backyard, eventually uncovering a dark history of torture and abuse directed by multiple occupants of the home.

This latest development follows the recent guilty plea of co-defendant Sarai Doyle, who admitted to the murders of both Cuevas and Debra Fox, the original owner of the Carlisle Street property. Prosecutors allege that the group conspired to kill Fox before concealing her death and continuing to use her home for criminal activity. While Race and Doyle have now accepted responsibility for their roles, the cases against three other individuals charged in connection with the killings remain pending. Race is expected to be sentenced to a mandatory term of life in prison without the possibility of parole at a hearing scheduled for late May.
