SCRANTON — A Carbon County man has admitted to setting fire to a Scranton home in what authorities say was retaliation for a deadly crash involving his boss.
According to court records, Barton James MacConnell pleaded guilty to one felony count of criminal mischief for the 2023 arson on Brook Street. The home belonged to Michael Albert, who the day before had been charged with hitting and killing MacConnell’s employer, Mark Boyle, with a dump truck in Schuylkill County.
Albert was later sentenced in June to 23 months in prison for that fatal crash.
Prosecutors say MacConnell set the fire at Albert’s property following the incident. He is now awaiting sentencing for the arson.
