A man remains in serious condition after being struck by a train and falling into a difficult-to-reach pier area in Plains Township early Saturday morning. Emergency responders were called to the vicinity of South River and South Main streets around 1:00 a.m. following reports of a pedestrian involved in a railroad accident. Upon arrival, crews discovered the unidentified victim had been knocked approximately eight feet down into a concrete pier section situated above a local creek, necessitating a complex technical rescue operation to extract him from the infrastructure.
The rescue required a coordinated effort between the Plains Police, Fire, and Ambulance departments, with additional support provided by the Wilkes-Barre Police Department and railroad personnel. Once successfully recovered from the pier, the man was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment of significant injuries. While the investigation into how the man came to be on the tracks is ongoing, authorities have not yet released his name or his current medical status beyond his serious condition.
