A missing 14-year-old girl from Whitehall, Allegheny County, was located in Luzerne County on Monday after being reported missing the previous day. Authorities arrested 27-year-old Christopher Jones of Nanticoke, who they say used the social media platform Discord to lure the teenager to his home nearly 300 miles away. Investigators were able to find the girl by tracking her online interactions and utilizing license plate readers to follow Jones' vehicle as it traveled across the state.
Jones is now facing multiple felony charges, including unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of a minor, and interference with the custody of children. According to the criminal complaint, Jones allegedly communicated with the girl for several hours, telling her he preferred intimate relationships with children her age and providing her with a "cover story" to pose as her father. Whitehall Borough Police emphasized that this case highlights the critical role digital platforms play in missing persons cases and encouraged parents to maintain open conversations with their children about their online activity.
