A man and woman from Newport Township were in Luzerne County Court yesterday. James Kasisky and Valentina Varela-Luis both entered not guilty pleas in connection with the death of their infant daughter. They each face felony counts of involuntary manslaughter among others. The 19 month old was found unresponsive in their home in the Glen Lyon section of Newport Township last December. Prosecutors say the child was left in a hot room, unattended for over 24 hours. The death was ruled a homicide due to dehydration and metabolic imbalance. They are both free on bail with another hearing set for October.
