Visitors to Luzerne County courtrooms will be required to place cell phones and smartwatches into a locked pouch as they enter the county courthouse as of Thursday, according to a court order issued by President Judge Michael T. Vough. The policy also applies to the Bernard C. Brominski Building, near the courthouse in Wilkes-Barre, where court proceedings also take place. Visitors to courtrooms in those buildings will be required to turn off cell phones and smartwatches and place them in a lockable pouch as they pass through security screening. The visitor will retain the locked pouch, but will not be able to open it. A similar cell phone policy is in place in Lackawanna County.
