A fast-acting neighbor is being credited with saving two residents after an intense fire broke out at an Olyphant home early Wednesday morning. The blaze began around 1 a.m. at a residence along Delaware Avenue, quickly spreading through the structure while the occupants were still inside. Witnessing the flames from nearby, a neighbor rushed to the scene with a ladder, positioned it against the house, and assisted both individuals in escaping the smoke and fire before emergency crews arrived on the scene.
Both residents were treated for minor injuries following their escape, but officials noted the situation could have been far worse without the immediate intervention of the neighbor. Firefighters from Olyphant and surrounding communities battled the flames for several hours to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent properties. As of this morning, fire marshals have not yet determined the cause of the blaze, and the investigation into the origin of the fire remains ongoing.
