SHAVERTOWN, PA — One person died and three others were hospitalized following a house fire in the Back Mountain region of Luzerne County early Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 5:00 a.m. to a single-family home on North Pioneer Avenue in Shavertown after reports of multiple individuals trapped inside a working structure fire.

Three residents were inside the home when the fire broke out. First responders were able to rescue two occupants, who were immediately transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. One resident was unable to escape and was pronounced dead at the scene following the discovery of a body by search and rescue crews. The Luzerne County Coroner's Office was called to the location.

Additionally, one firefighter sustained a head injury during suppression efforts and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal has responded to the scene to conduct an investigation into the origin and cause of the blaze. Authorities noted that preliminary observations indicate the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
