SCRANTON, PA — Opening arguments are scheduled to begin today in Lackawanna County Court in the murder trial of Christopher Wasnetsky, a former Lowe's employee accused of fatally shooting his co-worker inside the Scranton store last year.
The trial officially gets underway following the completion of jury selection on Monday. A panel of 12 jurors—nine men and three women—along with four alternates was seated around 3:30 p.m. after a day-long selection process overseen by Lackawanna County Judge Margaret Bisignani Moyle.
Wasnetsky, 36, faces first- and third-degree murder charges in the death of 44-year-old Jeffrey Moeller Jr. According to police, the shooting occurred just after midnight on June 14, 2025, during an overnight shift at the Lowe's location on Viewmont Drive.
Investigators say Wasnetsky approached Moeller while he was operating a forklift and shot him multiple times. Following the incident, Wasnetsky called 911 to confess to the shooting, claiming he acted out of frustration due to ongoing workplace harassment.
With the jury now in place, prosecutors and defense counsel will present their opening statements before calling their initial witnesses to the stand.
