HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that 86 municipalities across the Commonwealth will share $38 million in funding through the state’s Green Light-Go Program to enhance traffic safety, ease congestion, and improve traffic flow.
The competitive grant program provides reimbursements to local governments for operations and technology updates to existing traffic signals. In Luzerne County, two municipalities secured funding for signal modernization efforts:
- City of Wilkes-Barre: Awarded $264,000 for signal upgrades across several key intersections:
- Coal Street and Sherman Street
- Coal Street and Empire Street
- South Street and Franklin Street
- Mundy Street and Spring Street
- Spring Street and Sherman Street
- Northampton Street and Empire Street
- Wright Township: Awarded $159,144 for traffic signal modernization at major corridors along Mountain Boulevard:
- Mountain Boulevard and Crestwood Drive
- Mountain Boulevard and Church Road
- Mountain Boulevard and Sword Drive
Statewide, the Green Light-Go grants support projects ranging from LED signal conversions and retiming initiatives to advanced signal monitoring and modern technology integration aimed at making intersections safer for drivers and pedestrians alike.
