A bridge connecting Pittston to West Pittston that was closed in 2021 for safety concerns will remain closed.PennDOT is recommending the bridge not reopen due to safety concerns in a recent report.Luzerne County officials were hoping to have The Firefighter’s Memorial Bridge, also known as the Water Street Bridge in Pittston, reopened sooner rather than later. Traffic in that area now uses the nearby Specialist Dale Kridlo Bridge, also known as the Fort Jenkins Bridge to travel between Pittston and West Pittston. Both bridges are supposed to be replaced in about three to four years.

The bridge connecting Pittston to West Pittston known as the Firefighters Memorial Bridge honors the lives of two firefighters lost 30 years ago today. John Lombardo and Len Insalaco died fighting a fire in a building in downtown Pittston.
