PHILADEPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia’s prosecutor says an unrepaired fence, switched-off motion sensors and a sleeping guard are among the factors that helped two men escape from a city prison earlier this year and led to their absence being unnoticed for 19 hours. Ameen Hurst and Nasir Grant escaped from the Philadelphia Industrial Correction Center on May 7. Both were later recaptured. The Philadelphia Inquirer quotes District Attorney Larry Krasner as telling City Council members Wednesday that a hole in the fence was noticed by staff four days earlier but went unrepaired. The city's prison commissioner says leadership changes have been made and technological upgrades are being sought.
