A high-speed pursuit that began in Carbondale on Tuesday afternoon ended with a crash in Scranton, leaving the driver at large and prompting brief school lockdowns. The incident started around 1:00 p.m. near the intersection of South Main Street and 7th Avenue in Carbondale.
Authorities observed the suspect’s vehicle traveling at high speeds down the Casey Highway before it eventually entered Scranton’s Hill Section. The chase concluded when the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a parked car on Taylor Avenue.
Following the crash, the driver fled the scene on foot. The proximity of the search area led officials to place Prescott Elementary and Northeast Intermediate Schools on lockdown as a precautionary measure. Those lockdowns were lifted just before 2:30 p.m. once it was determined there was no immediate threat to the students. Despite an extensive search by local and state police, the suspect has not yet been apprehended.
