HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) investigated 790 motor vehicle crashes during the 2026 Labor Day holiday enforcement period, marking a decrease in fatal collisions even as total crash numbers saw a slight uptick compared to last year.
According to official figures released Thursday by the Pennsylvania State Police Newsroom, troopers handled 790 total crashes during the four-day initiative running from Sept. 4 through Sept. 7. Of those incidents, 152 resulted in injuries, while three fatal crashes led to three deaths across the Commonwealth. By comparison, state police investigated 750 crashes during the same holiday weekend in 2025, which resulted in seven fatalities.
Impaired driving was cited as a contributing factor in 67 of the crashes recorded over the weekend, though none of the DUI-related collisions resulted in fatalities. State troopers arrested 450 drivers for allegedly driving under the influence, representing a drop from the 529 DUI arrests made over Labor Day weekend last year.
In total, troopers issued 25,402 traffic citations during the enforcement push. The violations included 6,447 citations for speeding, 770 for failing to wear seat belts, and 84 for improper child safety-seat restraints. Overall citations for speeding, seat belt use, and child safety restraints all trended downward compared to 2025 enforcement metrics.
State police noted that the compiled statistics reflect only incidents investigated directly by PSP troopers and do not incorporate data from local municipal law enforcement agencies. Officials stated that the preliminary numbers remain subject to change as final collision reports and court records are processed.
