Pennsylvania utility regulators have unanimously approved a settlement that will increase electric distribution rates for PPL Electric customers, though the final hike is significantly lower than what the company initially sought. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission voted Thursday to authorize a modified agreement in PPL's latest base rate case, effectively slashing the utility's proposed annual revenue increase from approximately $356.3 million down to $275 million.

The compromise marks a major reduction from the company's original request, saving consumers tens of millions of dollars collectively. The approved distribution rate adjustments will impact roughly 1.5 million residential and commercial customers across PPL's extensive service territory in eastern and central Pennsylvania. Exact impacts on individual monthly billing statements are expected to be outlined by the utility in the coming weeks as the new rate structure takes effect.
