Regional health care system victim of cyber attack

Officials with Lehigh Valley Health Network have released information about a cyber attack in their IT system. It happened earlier this month when unauthorized activity was detected on their portion of their network which supports a network supporting Lackawanna County based Delta Medix part of the Lehigh Valley Physician Group. According to officials, an investigation determined it was targeted by a ransomware gang known as BlackCat, to be associated with Russia which has been named in attacks of other health care sectors in the past. A ransom payment was demanded but the health network refused to pay. The investigation also determined the computer system involved was used for radiation oncology treatment. The investigation is ongoing.
