WASHINGTON — The Republican National Committee petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday to overturn a ruling that requires Pennsylvania to count undated or misdated mail-in ballots. In its filing, the RNC argued that the current judicial interpretation of state law transforms courts into "weapons of political warfare" by bypassing technical requirements set by the legislature. This legal challenge follows years of litigation over Act 77, the 2019 law that established universal mail voting in the state. While lower courts have recently leaned toward counting ballots with minor clerical errors to avoid disenfranchising voters, the RNC maintains that handwritten dates are a mandatory safeguard under state law. The justices are expected to review the request in a closed-door conference in the coming months, a decision that could have significant implications for the 2026 midterm elections in the critical swing state.
