PLAINS TOWNSHIP — Firefighters in Luzerne County were called to battle a residential blaze that broke out on Sunday evening. Officials with the Luzerne County Communications Center confirmed that crews were dispatched to the unit block of Kennedy Drive at approximately 7 p.m. for a reported house fire. As firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, the roof at the back of the two-level structure collapsed onto the second floor. The intensity of the response required authorities to close off portions of Birch Street, Kennedy Drive, and Garden Drive. Crews from Jenkins Township and Kingston Township provided mutual aid to assist local firefighters in bringing the scene under control.
