A deadly shooting that shut down a portion of Route 940 in Carbon County on Friday is now being investigated as a suspected murder-suicide, according to authorities. The Carbon County Coroner’s Office released new details Sunday, revealing that the investigation began after dispatchers received a 9-1-1 hang-up call, which prompted law enforcement officers to conduct a welfare check in the area. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the bodies of two deceased adults.
The identities of the man and woman involved are currently being withheld pending the results of an autopsy scheduled for later this morning. That examination will be conducted by the Lehigh County Coroner's Office to officially determine the cause and manner of death for both individuals. The active investigation is being handled jointly by the Pennsylvania State Police and local coroner officials.
