On the ballot in yesterday's general election, a race closely watched was for Lackawanna County Commissioner. Declaring victory Democrats Bill Gaughan, Matt McGloin and incumbent Republican Chris Chermak. Two incumbents, Debi Domenick did not run for re-election and Jerry Notarianni lost in the May primary.

In area Mayoral races, in Hazleton, Republican Jeff Cusat was elected to his third term and in Wilkes Barre, Democrat George Brown got the nod for a second term. There's a new Mayor in Carbondale, longtime city clerk Michele Bannon ran unopposed for the position. Justin Taylor, did not seek what would have been his 6th four year term.

The six seats up for grabs for Luzerne County Council went to Republicans Lee Ann McDermott and Harry Haas and Democrats, all newcomers to council, Patricia Krushnowski, Jimmy Sabatino, Joanna Bryn Smith and Brittany Stephenson.

For the open seat on the PA Supreme Court, Democrat Daniel McCaffery came out on top.
PA Superior Court, Democrats Jill Beck and Timika Lane

Jenkins Township voters there said no to increasing the township's property tax to fund police and fire protection.  In Nanticoke two proposed amendments to the city's home rule charter were not approved.  That means term limits for city council members and mayor will remain in place.

There may be a special election in the future in one part of Wyoming County that Luzerne County may have to pay for. It has to do with the race for school board in the Wyoming Area School District. It's because the names of two candidates did not appear and another was to be removed from the ballot in Exeter Township, Wyoming County because they were not notified by the Luzerne County Election Bureau. If it's determined the error changed the outcome of the election, the special election would be necessary.
