After months of debating, Hill Section neighbors achieved victory with the
acceptance of the zoning amendment they pushed for. City council voted 4-1
yesterday to amend Scranton’s proposed zoning ordinance and map,
changing the odd side of Colfax Avenue’s 200 block from a civic zone
with a 100-foot building height limit to a town-city institutional
zone with a maximum permitted height of 45 feet. This will also
effectively restrict the height of a parking garage Geisinger
Community Medical Center planned to build as part of the Center’s
expansion.
