Paul Sybrandy was sentenced to 20 to 75 years in state prison on Wednesday after pleading guilty to 5,000 felony counts related to the possession of child sexual abuse material. The investigation into Sybrandy began in July after the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Detectives subsequently discovered a massive digital archive containing 150,000 illicit files, including 200 photos displayed on a digital picture frame located directly next to his bed. Authorities determined that Sybrandy had been actively uploading these files, leading to the extensive list of felony charges.
The court's sentence reflects the severity and scale of the digital evidence recovered during the search of his residence. Beyond his lengthy prison term, the legal consequences for Sybrandy will extend for the remainder of his life. Upon his eventual release from custody, he will be required to register annually as a sex offender with the Pennsylvania State Police. This mandate is enforced under the state’s Sexual Offenders Registration and Notification Act (SORNA), ensuring continued monitoring and public disclosure of his status.
