Scranton residents expressed a mix of gratitude and frustration during this week’s City Council meeting as the region continues to dig out from the heavy snowfall that hit over the weekend. Following a state of emergency declaration in Lackawanna County, the Department of Public Works (DPW) has been under intense scrutiny. While some attendees at the meeting praised DPW crews for working long hours with limited resources, others voiced serious concerns regarding the consistency and safety of the city's plowing efforts on neighborhood streets.

Critics highlighted hazardous conditions for both residents and first responders, noting that many streets remained insufficiently plowed or completely un-salted. Common complaints included snow being repeatedly pushed onto private sidewalks and driveways, as well as an apparent lack of emergency coverage and clear direction for crews. In response, Council President Thomas Schuster stated that the city’s snow removal operations are ongoing and that crews will continue working until Thursday to ensure all roads are fully cleared.
