Lackawanna County Sheriff Mark McAndrew is calling on the district attorney’s office to launch a formal investigation into two of his own deputies who are suspected of pulling in tens of thousands of dollars in unauthorized overtime.
In a letter sent to Lackawanna County District Attorney Brian Gallagher, McAndrew alleges that the two deputies "knowingly received and/or submitted unauthorized overtime compensation while employed" by the department. The sheriff's letter estimates that the pair improperly obtained approximately $20,000 per year each for at least the past three years—totaling an estimated $60,000 in unearned taxpayer funds. McAndrew has requested a full criminal investigation into the matter.
