The special election for Representative in the 116th Legislative District is being held today. The candidates, Democrat, Amilcar (uh meal car) Arroyo, Republican, Robert Schnee and Libertarian, Paul Cwalina are running to fill the seat vacated after Republican Rep. Tarah Toohil was elected to be a judge on the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas. The candidate elected will take office right away and serve until the end of her term. A drop box will be at Penn Place for the special election today in the 116th Legislative District.
A Luzerne County Judge ruled yesterday that 305 mail ballots will be able to be counted by the Luzerne County Election Board if they arrive after today's election because it was due to "no fault of their own ''. It was last Friday the election bureau found that the state did not correctly upload two files containing mail ballot information for those voters and some received the ballot too late to be in by the deadline at 8pm this evening. State Senators David Argall, Lisa Baker, John Gordner and John Yudichak released a statement yesterday saying they are looking into the matter so it does not happen again.
