HAZLE TWP., PA — A 20-year-old man faces felony assault charges following a Friday afternoon stabbing in the student parking lot during dismissal at Hazleton Area High School.
The Hazleton Area School District Police Department responded to the front of the bus line around 3:00 p.m. after a fight broke out as students were leaving the main campus building. According to school authorities and court documents, the altercation spilled into the adjacent student parking lot, where officers pursued multiple fleeing suspects on foot before apprehending 20-year-old Michael Tejeada.
Investigating officers reviewed surveillance footage showing Tejeada repeatedly striking a male victim during the fight. First responders found the teen victim suffering from five stab wounds—three to the arm, one to his back, and one to his hip. The victim was transported by emergency services to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Hazleton for medical treatment.
Police stated that Tejeada, a second adult male, and a juvenile were involved in the altercation. The district superintendent confirmed that no students enrolled at the main high school campus participated in the fight.
Tejeada was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault along with related offenses.
