DUNMORE, PA — The Pennsylvania State Police have announced that sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols will be heavily active across the region for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Drivers traveling through Luzerne, Monroe, and Carbon counties can expect a heightened police presence starting Friday and continuing through Monday night. State police emphasized that troopers are operating with a strict "zero-tolerance enforcement policy" regarding driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The enforcement blitz aims to deter impaired driving, minimize traffic fatalities, and keep regional roadways safe during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. During checkpoint operations, troopers will systematically stop vehicles at designated locations to briefly evaluate drivers for any physical signs of impairment. Roving patrols will also look for aggressive driving behaviors, speeding, and seat belt violations.
State police strongly encourage anyone planning to consume alcohol over the holiday weekend to arrange a designated driver, utilize rideshare services, or use public transportation rather than getting behind the wheel.
