Many local officials will be taking oaths of office today. Among those Lackawanna County Commissioners. Two new commissioners, Democrats Bill Gaughan and Matt McGloin will join returning commissioner, Republican Chris Chermak. The three will be sworn in this morning at 11am in Lackawanna County's main courtroom. Others will be sworn in include several magistrates, other county officials and a judge.
Beginning this month, more than 300 Luzerne County government non-union workers will pay 10 to 11% more for health insurance. Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo included the increase in the 2024 budget, saying employee contributions are a “necessary step toward ensuring the sustainability and effectiveness of health care plans.”
