Some tense moments on Tuesday following minority Lackawanna County Commissioner Chris Chermack presenting his own county budget proposal. According to reports, Chermack's proposal to lower the property tax increase to 6.3% drew criticism from Majority Commissioners Bill Gaughan and Matt McGloin, who claimed the math in Chermack's proposal doesn't work. The majority commissioners are proposing a 33% percent property tax hike for 2025. A final hearing on the budget proposal will be held at 12 noon today at the commissioners' conference room in Scranton. The commissioners need to finalize the budget by early December.
