CHERRY RIDGE TWP., PA — A Honesdale man faces multiple felony charges after allegedly driving a pickup truck into the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Wayne County on Thursday evening, injuring a worker inside and causing significant structural damage.
State police report that 36-year-old Wade Louis Rickard drove his vehicle into the Honesdale Station on Collan Park at approximately 6:53 p.m. The collision damaged the facility's front entrance and main communications room, disabling the station's telephone lines. A police communications officer working inside the room at the time of the crash sustained minor injuries.
Following the impact, Rickard fled the scene on foot before being located a short time later along Ski Run Road. Members of the Pennsylvania State Police and the Honesdale Borough Police Department took him into custody without further incident.
Rickard has been charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, recklessly endangering another person, and simple assault. Authorities transported Rickard to Wayne Memorial Hospital for evaluation before transferring him to the Wayne County Prison to await formal arraignment.
