HAZLETON — A Saturday evening shooting at the Hilltop Apartments left two people dead and one injured, according to Hazleton police.
Officers were dispatched to the complex at 5:17 p.m. for a report of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, they located two individuals with apparent gunshot wounds.
One victim was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Hazleton and later transferred to another medical facility for further treatment. That person’s condition remains unknown.
A second victim was found deceased at the scene. Inside the residence, officers discovered a third individual dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Hazleton Police Department said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident and stressed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from Pennsylvania State Police, as well as police departments from West Hazleton, Butler Township, Sugarloaf Township, Beaver Meadows, Weatherly, Penn State Hazleton, and the Hazleton City Fire Department.
