SOUTH ABINGTON TWP., PA — A mother and daughter from the Factoryville area lost their lives Friday afternoon following a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 81 in Lackawanna County.
The Lackawanna County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 77-year-old Diane Olsen and her 54-year-old daughter, Jennifer Olsen.
According to investigators, the fatal incident occurred shortly after 3:15 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-81 near the Clarks Summit interchange. The passenger vehicle in which the women were traveling lost control and overturned along the roadway.
Both victims were treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, where they were pronounced dead from multiple traumatic injuries.
Pennsylvania State Police at Dunmore have opened an investigation into the crash. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
