Longtime 28/22 News Lead I-Team Reporter Andy Mehalshick returned to the television studio on Monday to announce his retirement from full-time broadcasting following a severe medical diagnosis. Mehalshick shared with viewers that he was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer and is currently undergoing treatments, a journey he notes will continue in the months ahead. The announcement marks the end of an era for the veteran local journalist, who has spent decades serving as one of Northeastern Pennsylvania's most trusted investigative voices.

Throughout his distinguished career, Mehalshick's hard-hitting investigative reports covered some of the biggest local and national stories of our time. His notable coverage included the high-profile 1990s arrest and conviction of Wilkes-Barre husband-killer Joann Curley, the systemic corruption of the Luzerne County "Kids for Cash" scandal, and the widespread fallout of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal. While stepping away from daily daily news anchoring, Mehalshick emphasized that he is not leaving the airwaves entirely; he plans to remain a part-time member of the news team, contributing to special investigative reports, localized podcasts, and upcoming political coverage.

The WILK Newsradio staff wishes Andy the best.
