SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE — The assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk is reverberating in northeastern Pennsylvania, where crowds gathered Sunday to honor his memory and call for an end to political violence.

About 50 people came together at Courthouse Square in Downtown Scranton, while another 30 gathered at Public Square in Wilkes-Barre. Attendees signed sympathy cards for Kirk’s family and a petition urging an end to politically motivated violence.

Kirk, a prominent activist, was shot and killed Wednesday at Utah Valley University. The news left many stunned, with participants at the local gatherings describing their grief and admiration for his work. Organizers plan to deliver the signed cards from both vigils to Kirk’s family.
