Vote tonight on proposed tax abatement for housing project in Hazleton

A request for a 10 year tax abatement for a proposed affordable residential housing project is expected to be voted on by Luzerne County Council at tonight's meeting. A revised proposal for the 90 acre site, located across from the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Hazleton, would pay an additional $250 minimum for each home to the county, but the developer would have to pay property taxes on the land. Some residents living in the area expressed concern it would allow other private developers breaks for such projects.
