Wilkes-Barre Man Charged with Homicide in Alleged Staged Suicide of Partner

WILKES-BARRE, PA — A 40-year-old Wilkes-Barre man was arrested Thursday morning on criminal homicide charges after investigators determined he fatally shot his partner in March and attempted to stage the scene as a suicide, according to Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce.

Authorities filed charges against Jacob Soboski in connection with the March 14 death of 42-year-old Soraya Cordy at their Puritan Lane residence. According to a criminal affidavit, investigators reviewed text messages and internal home security footage from an Xfinity camera, establishing that Soboski and Cordy had been engaged in a heated argument throughout the day regarding relationship infidelity.

Forensic analysis conducted during the investigation revealed Soboski's DNA under Cordy's fingernails, matching physical tear marks and scratch patterns found on Soboski's clothing. The evidence led detectives from the Wilkes-Barre Police Department and the Luzerne County District Attorney's Office to conclude the death was a homicide rather than a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Soboski was formally arraigned Thursday and remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility, where he is currently held without bail. A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Rick Cronauer is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 28 at 10:00 a.m.
