Wilkes-Barre road closed after water main break causes sinkhole

A water main break is to blame for a sinkhole that forced the closure of a Wilkes-Barre road on Monday afternoon. The sinkhole opened up at the intersection of Moyallen Street and South Sheridan Street following the utility failure. As a direct result of the damage, officials closed Moyallen Street from South Empire Street to South Sheridan Street to traffic. According to Pennsylvania American Water, a six-inch main that was originally installed back in 1928 snapped at around 3:00 p.m. on Monday, triggering the incident.
